As President of the Wisconsin Music Teachers Association, I
welcome you to our website. Enjoy your visit while exploring the
many facets of the site.
You can access information about our organization by clicking on
our keyboard to the left. Our site is particularly designed for
current WMTA members and your students. We also have resources
available for those who are interested in knowing more about us.
Founded in 1910, WMTA has steadfastly continued in its goals to
develop, maintain, and recognize high standards of music
instruction and performance in Wisconsin. As an affiliate of the
Music Teachers National Association, WMTA shares these goals
with musicians in all 50 states. Founded in 1876, MTNA is the
oldest professional nonprofit music teachers association in the
United States. WMTA endorses the mission of MTNA which is
"to advance the value of music study and music making to society
and to support the professionalism of music teachers".
By providing organization and activities at local, state,
divisional, and national levels, we work together to accomplish
goals which could not be achieved by an individual or by an
organization which exists at only one level. Our state has 16
active local associations which provide regular meetings and
programs, networking and so much more.
As teachers, we tend to be highly independent people. As
members of WMTA, we also need to be collaborative. Plan to be
involved in any way you are able, but especially at the local
association level where strong relationships and innovation
begin.
I encourage all current and prospective WMTA members to attend
our state and national conferences. Conferences are a
wonderful way to freshen up our teaching and interact with other
members of our profession. And our students will love the
surprise!
