Wisconsin Music Teachers Association

As President of the Wisconsin Music Teachers Association, I  welcome you to our web site. I hope you enjoy your visit and have time to acquaint yourself with the many facets of WMTA.

With the click of the mouse on our keyboard on the left, you can access information about our membership, local associations, district non-competitive student auditions, the Badger Competitions, the auditions handbook,  members programs, newsletter archives, information about the Annual State Conference, Teacher Certification, the Music Link Program, student activities page, and much more!

Founded in 1916, WMTA has steadfastly continued to its goals to develop, maintain, and recognize high standards of music instruction and performance in Wisconsin. As an affiliate of the Music Teachers National Association, WMTA shares these goals with musicians in all 50 states.  Founded in 1876, MTNA is the oldest professional nonprofit music teachers association in the United States.  WMTA endorses the mission of MTNA which is "to advance the value of music study and music making to society and to support the professionalism of music teachers".

By providing organization and activities at local, state, divisional, and national levels, we work together to accomplish goals which could not be achieved by an individual or by an organization which exists at only one level. Our state has 16 extremely active local association affiliated chapters to provide opportunities for communication and collaboration on local association organizational issues, teacher enrichment, mentoring and education, student support, community support, networking with colleagues, innovation and unique ideas.

Each of us has special gifts and talents.  Reach out to those in our state organization and volunteer to help in whatever way you can.  Working and sharing together we can impact the future of music in Wisconsin.  WMTA currently has  state board positions vacant; we can use your voice to help shape the musical future of Wisconsin.

I encourage all current and prospective WMTA members to attend our state and national conferences.   Every student you teach deserves the best you can give and what a better way than to have some time off, get refreshed and learn some new ideas.
